Culture & Events
Carinthian Summer
Since 1969, the Carinthian Summer Festival has attracted artists and music lovers from all over the world to Carinthia from the beginning of July to the end of August. Enjoy classical, jazz, and crossover music in impressive venues such as Ossiach Abbey. Since 1974, a church opera has also been a regular feature of the event series.
Domenig Stone House
During the summer months, the famous Stone House by architect Günther Domenig in Steindorf am Ossiacher See can be visited. It stands out for its unique shape and is intended to reflect the mountain landscape.
Ossiach handicraft market
In mid-August, thousands of people are invited to the arts and crafts market in Ossiach. 130 artists from over ten nations offer their works of ceramics, glass, wood, metal, leather, textiles, and paintings. The many musicians, street performers, and showmen create a unique atmosphere during the five-day market.
Culinary
The influence of three cultures – Carinthian, Slovenian and Italian – shapes the cuisine of Austria’s southernmost state.
Brettljausn
Enjoy a typical Carinthian slow-food dish – the Brettljausn. It’s best enjoyed as a reward after a hike or bike tour in one of the numerous wine taverns or snack bars, accompanied by a glass of cider.
Glundner Cheese
Glundner Kas is also a must-try. This cheese, made from curd cheese, is usually served with a traditional snack.
Carinthian cheese dumplings
At the inn or in the restaurant, a typical Carinthian dish is always on the menu: Kasnudeln.
Reindling
You can’t miss the original Carinthian Reindling. This sweet dessert is a must for all pastry fans.
pancakes
Despite the ham in its name, this dessert has nothing to do with meat. It’s comparable to pancakes—only much thinner, more delicate, and usually filled with apricot jam.
Freshwater fish
The restaurants around the lake offer fresh fish specialties. A delight!
